Governor Kaine announces inaugural Virginia Telework Day – August 3, 2009

Governor Timothy M. Kaine today joined Telework!VA and Telework Exchange in encouraging individuals and organizations to pledge to telework on the designated statewide Telework Day – Monday, August 3, 2009. The goal of Telework Day is to encourage private employers to offer telework to their employees on this one day as a catalyst to drive more pervasive adoption across Virginia.   • Governor Kaine announces results of Commonwealth’s Inaugural Telework Day
    September 3, 2009 Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Virginia teleworkers saved approximately $113,000, avoided driving 140,000 miles and removed 75.89 tons of pollutants from the air through participation in Telework Day on August 3, 2009. The "What We Saved; What We Learned" report, compiled by the public-private partnership Telework Exchange, also reveals an increase in productivity by participants and reports satisfaction with their teleworking experience.  Read the press release.

    Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced a new Department of Taxation telework program in the Danville/Martinsville region. The 25 new employees, who will work from home with equipment and Internet connections provided by the Tax Department, recently began 12 weeks of training in Martinsville to prepare for their positions.

    “The Department of Taxation has been a leader in state government in shifting a large number of its employees to working from home at least one day a week, and this southwest Virginia effort is an extension of that,” said Governor Kaine.
