The Commonwealth of Virginia is now soliciting participants for its 2011 healthcare broadband survey. Last year, over 350 physicians, hospitals, clinics, and other key provider locations participated in the survey, leading to the creation of the Commonwealth’s first Health IT broadband map.
Developed by Broad Axe Technology Partners in Charlottesville, Virginia, the survey examines the connection between broadband connectivity and health information technologies utilized by healthcare facilities in the Commonwealth. Key Health IT platforms assessed include Electronic Health Records, Telehealth, and Health Information Exchange. The insights generated by the survey will continue to help the Commonwealth assess gaps in broadband availability and support Health IT initiatives across provider segments.
We invite all Virginia healthcare providers to participate. If you have any questions and/or concerns, you are encouraged to e-mail survey@broadaxepartners.com.

RICHMOND – Today Secretary of Technology Jim Duffey announced the release of the new broadband availability map for Virginia. The most comprehensive and interactive map of Virginia to date, it is available for use by policy makers, government leaders, providers, and citizens to identify where broadband services are available as well as identify un-served or underserved areas in the state.
The map, developed from data provided by broadband service providers and other sources is a collaborative effort of the Center for Innovative Technology, The Virginia Information Technologies Agency’s Virginia Geographic Information Network (VGIN), and Virginia Tech’s eCorridors Program. In addition to allowing users to view where different types of services are available, the interactive map also allows users to search by address and view a list of providers who offer services at that location.
